A Visit to Azerbaijan
The largest of the three countries in the southern Caucasus is Azerbaijan. The Turkic tribes were the ones that
settled in this territory in large numbers about one thousand years ago.The Turkic tribes who settles here absorbed
some of traditions of the local people, and the local people also adopted some of the culture of the Turkic tribes.
Not surprisingly, therefore, the Azerbaijani language is closely related to the Turkish and Turkmen.
The Azeris are known to be a lively and warm people. Family ties are close, and relatives rely on each other
in times of difficulty.
Some of the activities the Azeris Love are,Music and Poetry. A singer in of Azeri in one form of music
called Mugam, recites classical Azeri poems to the accompaniment of folk instruments. A Mugam performer has to have
a good knowledge of traditional Mugam repetoire and a knack for improvisation.
One very importantpart of the Azerbaijani culture is Tea.The beverage is served in small pear-shaped glasses with a
cube of sugar, sometimes accompanied by pistachios,almonds, abd rasins. tea houses can be found in even the smallest
of towns in this country.
To the east of the country is the Casipian Sea, this is the habitat of the sturgeon
(Sturgeons are any marine or fresh water fish ofthe family Acipenseridae that are famed for their roe). This aquatic animal
can live more than 100 years. the biggest ever caught of the Sturgeon was about 8.5 meters in lenght and
it weighed about 1,297 kilograms! Sturgeons are prized for their eggs-their roe-the famous and costly black caviar.
Azeris are religious people who like to talk about God. Most people in this country are Muslims. but there are other
religious groups present in this country they include, the catholics,Anglicans, and thosuands of Jehovah's Witnesses-
Many of them are native of Azerbaijanis.
