The elderly are known in our society to impart knowledge and
wisdom and most cases to relate experiences about life. But people often
overlook the importance of the elderly with regard to food. While it is true
that the elderly have more and lots to offer when it comes to impacting
knowledge to the youth, it is also true that the elderly can tell the youths
about the culture of a land and that culture involves the food and types of
soups they enjoyed while they were growing up.
So this post is mainly about what the adults (elderly) have
to offer when it comes to the types of food and soups that a particular tribe
use to enjoy and how you can through the elderly get to know these foods and
soups and have ideas as to how these soups and foods are prepared. So that
anytime you meet and elderly for an advice you can as well just meet her for
tips about your local and tribal food.
Roles of the Elderly regarding soups
The elderly are wise: The elderly are known for their wisdom
and this is true because they preserve the cultures of the land and they tell
stories about the way of life to their people. So if you really want to know
about some types of soups or food that is enjoyed by a particular tribe you
need to ask an elderly woman for explanation and you would be glad you did.
Today’s youth are tomorrows Adult: Who are the youths of
today? The simple answer is simple and clear, they are the adults of tomorrow.
So as a youth today, you need to know that it is your responsibility to tell
tomorrow’s youth about what you know now and that includes the soups and foods
best enjoyed by your tribe.
The elderly are Natural: Most times the traditional
ingredient that is used for a certain traditional soup is been replaced with
modern ingredients or spices and this gives a different taste and aroma from
the original version of the soup or food. But the elderly still knows and use
the original ingredients and spices. There is definitely no other better place
to learn about the soups and foods of a tribe if not from the elders.
The importance of the elderly in our midst with regard to our
food and soups cannot be over stressed, so don’t just meet the elderly for
advice alone, try making them tell you about you home soups and foods because
soon the table will turn and you will become an elder.
