Food-Tips: Tribal Soup Part 2- Nigerian tribes with Various types of Nutritious Soups

Oha Soup
Ohan Soup is soup that is enjoyed among the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, actually this soup is not best enjoyed with cold drinks or bottled water, it’s best enjoyed with solid Amala (yam flouir). Ohan is a type of soup that is peculiar to the Igbo tribe of Nigeria. This soup is prepared with a leaf known in Nigeria as the Ohan Leaf, although as at the time of this post we don’t have the right knowledge as to how this food is prepared, but what we do know is that, this soup coupled with the Amala (Yam Flour) is very delicious.
According to local source, this Ohan leaf is very light and does not require hard or rash handle as this will completely destroy the leaf. So to pound this leaf one has to use a mild and soft method. The Ohan soup is so popular that its echoes spread across the southern part of Nigeria, influencing other tribes like the Calabars, the Ijaws, and the Deltans to enjoy eating this soup.

Afang Soup
Some will say that this food is best prepared by the Calabar tribe of Nigeria, still others will argue that it is best prepared by the Igbo tribe. A visit to Akwa Ibom state in Nigeria might just clear your doubt and this argument. From my observation, Abia and Akwa Ibom state both share a common boundry (Border) in Nigeria and these two states are Igbo and Calabar States respectively. So somehow, there came a mix up as to which tribe really owns the Afang Soup but for a certaintiy, the Okazi leaf which is very Important ingredient in the preparation of this soup belongs to the Igbo tribe, so how about we just forget about the owner of this soup and focus on the soup itself?
Afang is a type of soup that is popularly cooked and eaten by the Igbo and Calabar tribe in Nigeria. This food is prepared with a leave know as the “Okazi Leaf”, and it is best enjoyed with Amala (Yam Flour). Just like the “Yoruba Ewedu Soup, the Igbo Okaze soup is prepared with its unique leaf known as the “Okazi Leaf”. Although preparation of this food might vary from one Igbo or Calabar land to another, the ingredient for preparing this food is almost if not the same around all the Igbo and Calabar land.

According to the Igbo tribe, preparing this food is very simple but yet technical. As at the time of this post we don’t have all the complete idea as to how this food is prepared but we sure have idea about what can be use or what is needed for the preparation of this meal. For a start, you need the Okazi Leaf, palm oil, dry fish, periwinkle, meat and seasonings (magi and salt), think these are the most important ingredient in preparing this meal. Please if you are an Igbo or Calabar reading this article you can add more description of this food via your comment below.

Okazi Soup
If the Igbo tribe should be known for anything else aside from their cultures and dialect, then it has to be the different types of soups prepared by this tribe. Okazi is a type of soup that is popularly cooked and eaten by the Igbo tribe in Nigeria. This food is prepared with a leave know as the “Okazi Leaf”, and it is best enjoyed with Amala (Yam Flour). Just like the “Yoruba Ewedu Soup, the Igbo Okazi soup is prepared with its unique leaf known as the “Okazi Leaf”. Although preparation of this food might vary from one Igbo land to another, the ingredient for preparing this food is almost if not the same around all the Igbo land.
According to the Igbo tribe, preparing this food is very simple but yet technical. The Okazi Soup and Afang soup uses same Okazi leaf as the main ingredient, but the Okazi soup have additional Ingredients like; the Water Leaf, and Egusi (Melon). For a certainty, as at the time of this post we don’t have all the complete idea as to how this food is prepared but we sure have idea about what can be use or what is needed for the preparation of this meal.

For a start, you need the Okaze Leaf,Egusi (Melon), Water Leaf, palm oil, dry fish, periwinkle, meat and seasonings (magi and salt), think these are the most important ingredient in preparing this meal. Please if you are an Igbo reading this article you can add more description of this food via your comment below.
